FAQ

I live in Romania. Can I still become an egg donor?

Yes, you can as long as the egg donation takes place in a country where this procedure is legal; for example – Cyprus. Even though Romania has legal restrictions on egg donation, it allows Romanian candidates to join the egg donation program abroad. Aphrodite Egg Bank in Cyprus is licensed by both the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Cyprus and by the European Tissue and Cells Directives (EUTCD). Following all the legal guidelines of these two accredited boards, our egg bank is within its legal boundaries to procuretestprocessstoredistribute, import, and export human gametes and embryos.

I don't have any children yet. Can I still become an egg donor?

Yes, you can. As per Cyprus laws and regulations, you can still become an egg donor despite not having any children.

Who needs my help?

Thousands of women are unable to conceive naturally, and for them using donor eggs to get pregnant is the only solution. There are many reasons for such conditions; however, these are the most common ones:

  1. Some women might experience premature menopause before age 40, often leading to infertility.
  2. For cancer patients, treatments such as surgery, chemotherapy, or radiotherapy, often damage their eggs and ovaries – as a result, there are no eggs produced.
  3. Some women are fertile and able to produce eggs but suffer from or carry serious genetic diseases. Using donated eggs avoids passing the condition onto a child.

Will I be able to get pregnant after becoming a donor?

Women are born with millions of eggs, which is far beyond what they will need in one lifetime. Some women happen to have a lower number of eggs, so we run a fertility check called Anti Mullerian Hormone test (AMH), to make sure that you are in a position to become a donor. If your fertility is low, you would not be considered to proceed with egg donation. However, you will still be partly compensated for the loss of income and your time.

What is included in the egg donation program?

  1. A feeling of giving the gift of parenthood that would not be possible without people like you.
  2. Through the donation process, you receive a generous compensation package. Once you apply to become an egg donor, our coordinator will call you to inform you about the exact amount.
  3. Free health evaluation worth over €1000 to understand your health better.

Is it safe?

The process is completely safe, and has no effect on your fertility in the future. We monitor you closely throughout the entire process to ensure that everything runs smoothly. Since the medication is only taken for a few days, there is no disruption to your menstrual cycle after the egg collection.

Is the process anonymous?

The process in Cyprus is fully anonymous by law; therefore your identity is always kept secret. At the same time, the donor is never given the identifying information of the recipients.

Egg Donation - examination and bloodwork check

Visit the nearest lab for a blood check-up

You will then visit one of our doctors near the area where you live for a small examination and bloodwork to check if you are a good candidate for egg donation.

Prepare for egg donation

If all the tests look good, the doctor will give you instructions to prepare your ovaries for donation. Your treatment will mainly include birth control and a very small and painless injection done once a day for 9-10 days. These injections are very similar to the insulin injections that diabetics take every day. We will guide you throughout the entire process, so you have nothing to worry about.

Check-up

As you get closer to the donation date, you will visit the doctor for a final check-up to make sure that everything is going well and you are ready for the donation.

Egg donation

Once you are ready for donation, you will come to the clinic one last time for the egg donation. After the egg collection, you should rest for 2-3 hours and then you can go back to your regular schedule.
